Certainly, not. But stupidity is: 1. Why China-level disaster & not US level? 2. Assuming others aren't going to do what US failed to (Our govt is incompetent & corrupt, but still thrs a lot of impetus from them & citizens to curb) If not for wider good, then for our own sake.
Simply because China was the last big country to get rich. It's not stupid to assume a country won't avoid something that no country has been able to avoid. Surely if there's one thing that graph suggests, it's that the default assumption should be emissions grow with wealth.

Why do you think US will not become an even bigger "disaster" that it is right now in terms of emissions? Is it rich enough to stop? Also, wealth is ONE data point. Several countries have avoided other things that US hasn't been able to (It's pathetic healthcare e.g.?)

Wouldn't you, of all people, be the best placed to not assume defaults, not base their judgements so narrowly? If not, then i'd be happy if you could strive to be placed so. I'm a nobody and I don't think I know more than you abt anything at all. But I'd like strive to do so.
