It’s also highly depends on how the ideas are executed. There are many ideas that should’ve been huge and failed, and then there are very strange ideas that succeed because the execution was well planned. Pet Rock anyone??

that's because those great ideas are only great in hindsight. With the information everyone had, they were bad ideas. Then the world evolved in a direction that made those ideas good. The question is, do you really know something others don't that makes your idea good now?

So how does a VC recognize the great ideas that seem like bad ideas to most people? I’m sure volumes could be (and have been) written on the topic, but that’s my immediate question.
