Walk into any grocery or pharmacy. Look at how many toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, etc. in category, they all do the same task. Why so many? Slight variations and branding. That’s about it. Same mentality applies for the rest of the economy.

I would argue that some, probably most, domains aren't winner-takes-all. And then, you can simply compete by evolving with your users. There is never going to be one ultimate project management system that "gets" it and that everyone uses.

Best to compete with the top two, the brand and value play. Pick one of them. Go at the users that need it but cannot afford it for their use case.
