As I explained to my son, one of the most important techniques for doing well on standardized tests is simply to go back and check your answers. Because most standardized tests are too easy, the difference between a good score and a great one is avoiding random slip-ups.

Far too easy to fall prey to the desire to finish first in a world that obsesses over delivery speed. Yet doing so forfeits the time required to ensure the integrity of that which one delivers, whether it be a product or a completed test.

If you can go back. "Computerized adaptive tests" (GRE, GMAT, others) present questions one at a time, and use answers to select which question to ask next. So muffing easy questions early can mean that you don't even get a chance at hard questions (and high scores) later on.

I love my classes in undergrad EE for this reason. Mean class score would be 45%. Great for doing a nice spread distribution. Unlike some other courses where the difference between an A or a B is a single question on the final.
