Idea for anyone who wants it: detect which colleges have tried hardest to game college rankings. I know from spam filtering that bad guys leave statistical tracks they don't realize they're leaving, and I'm sure colleges that gamed the system didn't think of this.
The results should, of course, be presented in the form of a ranked list. If you set up a Kickstarter page for this project, and you seem like you know what you're doing, I'll donate to it.
Incidentally, this could be the kind of project that leads to a startup. Once you're good at detecting cheating, you'll be an expert on college rankings. Then you create your own non-bogus rankings, which could be the seed crystal of lots of things. (Sorry, can't help it.)

May be a hint: There was this story in Lithuania, that universities were gaming rankings. One variable of uni rank was citation count. So unis set up their own journals and published their scientists
getting started on this.
Why bother Ranking? Let students collectively determine what is the best university/degree... this carries more weight a ranking system.
Rankings are also a collective view of a university which skews things, some universities excel in certain subjects and not others.
Same for Carnegie rankings (R1 research status)! Correlated?

I just tried to back it. Kickstarter said my credit card was "declined for an unknown reason." Presumably the reason is that their software is broken. But in the meantime I suggest you lower the threshold. If you set it at $50k, you get zero till people have pledged that much.
