    Applications to US MBA programs fell 7% in one year. Now MBA programs are reinventing themselves to be more socially responsible. That's a fine thing (if they mean it), but it's not why people have stopped applying. They've stopped applying because it's not where the money is.

        MBA programs were where the money was when they took off in the 1980s. Big companies were where the money was, and MBA programs were their West Point. But that world is gone, and it's not coming back (http://paulgraham.com/re.html ).

        This is hit or miss without (a) a strong business foundation eg consulting/banking or (b) getting lucky and having an amazing mentor / manager. Higher sigma to do a small startup, while MBA reduces risk
