IBM seem crooked indeed. insane that patents can be awarded for such things. this sounds like they locked a bunch of comscis in a room in the late 90s and told them to brainstorm what consumer products might soon be viable. but instead of making them, they just patented them.

as in, they patented what they wanted the product to do, not how they wanted it to do it. if you believe in patents at all you surely believe they should have to conform to the latter.
