"Burgeoning" is one of those words that doesn't occur in spoken English. You only see it when people switch into their fancy writing diction. It's getting real big, they think. But I can't say that. I know, I'll say that it's burgeoning.

Using longer words doesn't imply greater command of the language. Rather the other way round in fact.
