Don't start a startup to make things for people who are evil or dishonest. It will be demoralizing, and thus less likely to succeed. Unless you are yourself evil or dishonest. (This is one of many things you get for free when you start by building something you yourself want.)

If founders only build things they personally want, and most founders are male, young to middle-aged, and from relatively well-to-do backgrounds, who will build things that the rest of humanity wants or needs?

Market forces create pressure against that happening. If all startup founders are x and only make things for xs, there are proportionately big opportunities for ~x founders, because all the ideas serving ~xs are untaken.

Thats pretty naive. Just take a look around, there is a massive unbalance of x founders building for xs users. Power, money and opertunity distribution is unequal, the market enforces that rather then equalises.

"Who will build things that the rest of humanity wants or needs?" Fortunately, the answer to this question is "the rest of humanity". This is one reason why companies like Lambda School are so important. Giving the rest of humanity the tools to do it will transform the world.

Yes, but if ~xs have less money markets will care proportionately less about them in the near term This applies most strongly to the global poor (factor of 100) or future persons (infinite? factor), but still a significant factor for US minorities
