Now that I think about it, optimism and ambition are two of the main things YC cultivates in the startups it funds. You have to do it well. You can't just say "think big!" and expect that to work. But doing this effectively is a big part of the value of YC.
(Encouraging startups came naturally to me, because I love optimism and ambition. It doesn't take an effort to encourage startups and help them figure out how to get bigger. It would take an effort not to.)

What about money, time and PMF? While looking for PMF one needs both money (even when bootstrapping), time till runway ends, and eventually PMF (if found). The three you mention are fundamental, but without these other three can't get a startup too far. What do you think?

I admire Stripe quite a lot (and we use them, they're fantastic) but the primary lesson from Stripe is not "be optimistic" but "be where the money is".
I think the more primary less is "be optimistic" tbh. It's easy to point out where money is, but it hasn't helped most people!

Thank you for sharing. So many companies do not operate like this. I think work in America has become demoralizing for many employees. Sadly most environments are the opposite of this. If you love what you do, it is still work, but meaningful.
