How common is this? seems like something most people know.
The mistakes that inexperienced founders make have a lot in common with those that inexperienced writers make. They go about things in an overcomplicated way, because the obvious, simple approach doesn't seem "serious" enough.

Similar to building something for yourself, I would say write for yourself out of curiosity, creativity, or straight expression, and it will probably be really compelling.
