It's really strange to see a world where YC Demo Day exists, bursting with ideas and optimism and technology, and yet at the same time Europe chooses to invest in negative interest rate bonds. Europe is doomed. Demo Day is magical. Two ends of the pessimism/optimism spectrum.

The question of whether interest rates are positive or negative is largely a question of monetary policy. It doesn't have much to do with prosperity or human well-being.

You are wrong. Positive interest rates mean there is actual "time value of money" Negative interest rates harm society. It's *not* just a number.

You can invest in negative-yelding bonds *and* YC startups just to satisfy portfolio requirements for a fund. If there is little correlation between both assets, that's totally sound.

For sure. And I hope there will be more! I didn't mean "Europeans" so much as "those buying negative yield bonds in Europe." They could be from anywhere, but they are pessimists. But as a continent, Europe could use a little more entrepreneurship...that statement I do stand by.

you don't understand why those bonds exist. It's not pessimism, they perform a financial function. Organizations need money predictably with little risk at different points in time. E.g. you have contractors working on a bridge and they need to be paid when they finish.

Point is that Europe is an anti-incubator
