The "Silenced Majority" still votes. This seems to me to explain - at least partially - how polls got it so wrong in the last election.
-
The polls in the 2016 US Presidential election were incredibly accurate. As
@NateSilver538 pointed out, the polls said Trump had a roughly 1 in 3 chance of winning; sometimes you roll a die and you get a 1 or a 2.

The silent majority are those scared to speak about their deep held racist, sexist, xenophobic ideas.
-
This is the point though, right? Only if you bring people's moderate views to any extreme can this be true. Is the assumption here that beliefs are linear?

If it’s a left wing mob then it’s fine. It doesn’t even matter if the victim is non-white. I’ve reported such cases of left wing harassment and nothing happened. Lesson: saying I’m looking out for the downtrodden let’s me f**k around with others, evil in sheep’s clothing.

The silent majority has traditionally been wrong, such as when they supported Vietnam war or the Iraq war II.

You can literally get fired from your job by being politically active, no wonder people are scared to express their thoughts.https://www.politico.com/story/2018/04/06/trump-motorcade-middle-finger-505341 …
