The term "silent majority" was popularized by Nixon. Then it meant people who were silent because they didn't care enough about politics to speak out. It's pretty chilling that it can now be used to mean people who are afraid to express their opinions lest a mob come after them.

“Anyone moderate with a brain and anything to lose has largely gone silent” seems bad

"saying the wrong thing at a barbecue while someone is filming on their iPhone could result in a nationwide clarion call for my head on a pike. " Literally no one writing these dumb af articles is "moderate"

The issue raised in this article interrelates with what I feel about social media these days. IMO, this extends to almost any topic, not just politics. I don't even live in the US.

Not sure if political statements in social can be used against me. So I tend to avoid political statements. Also my opinions change, but the timeline does not indicate that.
