Student debt is something the government makes it extra easy to get into, and extra hard to get out of. The word for that is "trap." I don't think the government meant to create a trap, but that's what they've ended up doing.

You're a good human, Paul. Thanks. And, you're right, student debt is a government creation. If loans exist, debt will exist. College was never meant for workforce prep. It exists to train elites in the humanities, which is why most academics reject policy reforms

getting out of that trap is difficult, because businesses can freeride off of work done by tax and debt funded colleges, so individually have little incentive to create apprentice programs and ignore degrees.
