When people visit your startup, they should be surprised how few people you have. A visitor who walks around and is impressed by the magnitude of your operation is implicitly saying "Did it really take all these people to make that crappy product?"

What exactly do you mean when you say absorb the revenue?
-
It means that companies and especially startups should use their revenue to hire engineers and make the product better, rather than to pay taxes to the gov with it. If you want your business to grow, you want to have high revenue and close to zero profit because you reinvest.

In successful Startups, the true product is the company itself, and the true customers are the Investors. So current profit fades in comparison with Perceived Future Value, which is what investors are putting down money for and raising company value for. Today, PFV trumps Profit

It's worse than that. They need all those people because the executives can't build their little internal empires without any subjects to rule over.
