Find people who value the same things you value in a book. Help each other out. There's probably a wiki somewhere already, cataloging books in your niche. If there isn't, gather a bunch of like minded people and start one.

Perhaps books recommended by your friends and network are better. I always take a referral on books more trustworthy.

"Most" varies a lot depending on the subject/genre. For instance, not many bad books on physics.

A related realization: Just because *I* would be mortified to be caught confidently making an incorrect claim doesn't mean that *everyone else* would be. From some people, confidence correlates with accuracy; from many others, there is no connection at all.

Isn't this basically the dunning-kruger effect? There might be a person specific component to it as well though.

A small minority of books are worth reading in full. Even fewer are worth re-reading. Make sure to find both kinds of those books.
