Religious orthodoxy requires personal sacrifice whereas political orthodoxy does not.
-
I disagree. Religious orthodoxy allows for its adherents to avoid thinking through contrary perspectives... Much the same way that political othodoxy does. Not always, but NOT 'BEING ALLOWED TO ASK QUESTIONS' is the main issue in both cases.

This is also a big difference between being “junior” and “senior” in many areas like design, programming, foundership. Orthodoxy provides structure when one hasn’t yet gained the confidence to tackle problems from first principles.
-
For example, a junior founder running the startup circuit will first be orthodox about Lean Startup, attend workshops, read tonnes of books and convince themselves they just need to do things “the right way”. Luckily the rude awakening is forced quickly in entrepreneurship...
