I miss holding a crying baby. That's something that at one time I not only never imagined I'd think, but I couldn't imagine anyone thinking. It would have seemed almost ill-formed.

As someone who’s 50/50 on wanting to have kids this feels totally foreign. Why do you miss it?
Once you get over the initial panic, holding a baby is about the most visceral experience you can have. It's hard to find the right adjective, but you can feel it plugging right into some kind of receptor. Not crying is definitely better than crying, but even crying can be good.

To me, it feels a bit like —> Me, holding a baby: “Nah, I’m not bothered. Babies are meh. Nothing can make me care about them.” Mother Nature: “Hold my beer”.

That’s what nursing was like for me. The look of love they gave me, relaxed body in my arms totally trusting me, me sustaining their life. It hit a level of emotion I didn’t know was there. My babies are 15 and 22 now and I miss when they were babies
