I like most of your ideas, but not this one. It's important that a startup have the ability to build its own product, and building the initial version is a valuable, indeed company-defining, exercise.

The whole power of a startup is its ability to build things. They may have nothing else (no money, no brand, no employees), but they have this. So a startup that outsources the development of its software is like a chef who "cooks" by ordering takeout.

What is there was a “right of first refusal” to hire the
@LambdaSchool team that built the product. Company gets the benefit of low cost prototype and if the output is great, grads have a job when they graduate and company gets to keep the talent that built it
