Only two weeks old at this point but trying to set good habits and routines from the get go. I’ve loved your Q&A tweets with your kids and want to try instill that same type of mindset and curiosity

What I did in the very earliest phases, before language, was to focus on interesting them visually. It became a sort of test for me, to be able to show a baby something interesting even with very little to work with. E.g. crunch up a piece of paper, then carefully unfold it.

I found a similar idea worked well for my son with simple beatboxing sounds you can make with your mouth. I kept trying different permutations until I got feedback from him that he was delighted. (This was after he could smile or laugh.)

This is great. Not sure if Paul would agree, but Carol Dweck’s “Mindset” was a great perspective for me on what a parent can do to steward a child along the way to happiness and fulfillment. I also find introspection/directed empathy a good tool for taking the long view as a Dad

And I would add that I’ve found that as terrifying as it is and fighting either a genetic or social instinct, the most rewarding feeling is truly being all to fully take care of your kids. Diapers, laundry, cleaning, health, school.. Do all the mom stuff AND all the dad stuff.
