What about co-founders? It’s more common there to see people who lucked out without putting in much work (Facebook has a bunch of those if I remember correctly).

A famous Swedish alpine skier once said in an interview: "Yes I was lucky to win. But what do you know? The more I train the luckier I get..."
-
Alpine skiing is in no way analogous to a startup. These sports analogies are dangerous - sports are a very controlled environment with perfectly clear rules that allow for repetitive training and skill development.

Very small portion of hard working people hit the jackpot. That’s why they call it luck. Duhh..

Well you have to work smart, hard and long. I don’t know any unsuccessful people that have done all three.

Luck might also be the result of really hard work - it’s what makes you able to identify the bets you should take (and steer clear of the ones you shouldn’t). Successful founders are good at counting cards.
