It's common for a startup to be confused initially with some category of lame predecessors. It seems to be harmless and may even be beneficial. It doesn't deter users, who see you're different, but keeps you off everyone else's radar screen.

I was thinking about how some people confuse Lambda School with coding bootcamps. Then I remembered how people similarly confused YC with startup incubators, and Dropbox with the many broken online backup things available then, and so on.
