Programming does at least train you to suspend judgment. You're constantly faced with things that seem as if they couldn't possibly be true, and yet are.

One of my favorite bugs involved me installing vim after sshing into a Docker instance running my app. Every time I’d install vim to poke around, some dependency vim needed from apt-get would fix the bug. It felt like Schrödinger’s bug. It would change depending on observation. https://twitter.com/gdb/status/943722083288211456 …

This must be a compiler bug. It’s definitely the compiler. Or maybe it’s DNS. (nope, just my own bug)

Also teaches a bad lesson in that it makes you skeptical of reality too often, which hurts communication skills. I say it alot, but programmerss don't struggle socially (generally) purely through selection, it's cyclical. Gotta keep the social muscles strong!

programming is one of the few professions where you can be absolutely sure that you are not doing something the best way pretty much all of the time. Understanding this and being able to move forward anyway is an interesting experience.

I was going to opine something of this ilk, but you said it better (and first).
