This man literally has no idea what he's talking about. Stay in your lane, dude.https://twitter.com/unclebobmartin/status/1135894377329508355 …

Thus, the testing burden is independent of typing. The number of tests you write and execute is unaffected by the type system of your language.

Not you too! If you disagree, surely it would be better to refute him than merely snarkily quote-tweet him.

I'm not saying the quoted tweet is correct. Odd are it's isn't if Shriram would write that. I just hate to see someone I admire descend to this.

Lots of people refuting in replies. Types are propositions. A dynamic typed system needs tests which can’t even compile in a strong type system. Not to say that one is better, but it’s wrong to assert that test burden unaffected.

We're not throwing pies. Paul's complaint is legit. But I also knew it would take me about 20-30 minutes to write the reply I wanted, and didn't have the time. I made it now.

I got called out by @paulg for not explaining my comment. Fair point, though sometimes it's exhausting. Maybe that means one unwilling to explain their reasoning shouldn't comment at all. Topic for another day. Let me explain my response a bit here. »

The drama of our time. Not every debate is worth having, but the ones who seek truth are not united in their struggle to combat falsehoods. Thanks for the effort! From now on, we'll be able to answer "try unit testing the halting problem for STLC, Bob" and move on ;D

Even if the OP was wrong, the spirit of making an attempt—even though you could be wrong—is important to maintain. QT-ing directly contributes to a world where people are afraid to be wrong. Good call out!

The bullshit asimmetry: the amount of energy needed to refute bullshit is an order of magnitude bigger than to produce it.
