When a startup is small, it seems cute and the press writes encouragingly about it. When it reaches the size where they can get attention by attacking it, they do that instead.

Share your frustration, all of us do. But these companies have tremendous impact and power as they grow and it is the press’s job to speak truth to power?
It is. And if that was all they did, it would be wonderful. But another thing the press do, increasingly as you go down the food chain, is pander to their audience's biases.

Should we ban advertising? All forms of advertisement driven media end up in panderfest, especially now with amount of data about audiences bias. Paid journalism is better quality IMHO.

I think tech publications’ audiences span the entire spectrum ranging from tech-fanboys to luddites so not sure what pandering means here. I mean there’s an equal amount of worshipful tech/VC coverage which is even more grating and embarrassing tbh.
