A startup that helps people make money will make money itself. Both Viaweb and Y Combinator did this. And so do Airbnb and Stripe. It's not the only recipe for a startup, but it's a good one.

You don't need to own where you live to be an Airbnb host. In fact most of Airbnb's early hosts were renters.

Fair point. (Though there's also a demand issue there but it doesn't rebut your point.) Lyft/Uber definitely draws from lower income segments.

There’s also more homogeneity in cars than homes, and are in car trips for shorter duration than home stays. I’d bet that for any given social class, the Airbnb hosts are on the poorer end of it.
