When a startup is small, it seems cute and the press writes encouragingly about it. When it reaches the size where they can get attention by attacking it, they do that instead.

I don't think that's quite right -- as you gain power, you gain critics and judges. It is correct to question power.
Of course. But if you look at the sort of things people write, it goes beyond questioning. Many journalists write starting from the assumption someone as rich as Bezos or Zuck must be a bad person.

At that level you are a major public figure. Comes with the territory, does it not? Maybe the flaw here is that we're not teaching people about this so they're suddenly unprepared for being notable figures, or even public figures at the extreme ends.

Yeah, call me when Zuck, Musk, and Bezos aren't destroying the environment and/or underpaying their employees to the point where they're still stuck in poverty.
