Biographies of famous people often mention how they worked at night and on weekends, as if this were painful for them. But if you like what you do, nights and weekends are the best time to work. That's when you get those wonderful big blocks of time without interruptions.

That's true. But how can I explain that to my wife?

Done. Her reaction is not so encouraging. Essentially telling me (and not being wrong) that work/what I love should not come before family. Especially now with a new kid. Not trying to troll you Paul. Been a follower for a long time, just wonder how does family life come into it

Essentially the question is how do you keep on doing those long nights, weekends working on what you love and what makes you happy while at the same time having a family, especially with kids. It's something, I find really challenging at the moment as I guess so do other people.

It's harder to get these moments alone once you have kids. E.g. you can't stay up late, because little kids get up so early. One thing some people do when they have kids is switch to getting up super early.

But you probably have to resign yourself to working less, at least while your kids are little. Kids are pretty great though.

I am experimenting with splitting shifts with my wife so that I can get the quite of the night. But may end up trying the super early routine too. I suppose it's a journey of discovery.

Theoretically late nights seems to be bottom less because the entire night seems to be there for you...early mornings seems to easily run out or chasing ourselves against wakeup morning alarms ;-(
