Thankfully the CS and hard science reputations of Melbourne (and Monash and RMIT) are way better than this tripe.

I’m certainly not in favor of FGM but I also don’t understand how the same society that embraces circumcision, a particularly American tradition today, religiously condemns societies practicing FGM. This to me seems quite hypocritical.
-
Circumscion is done with the intent of hygenie and barely reduces the pleasure of sex. FGM is done with the intent of reducing pleasure to reduce temptation and control women. It can lead to disease and death.

Curious what % of YC accepted companies have founders without degrees nowadays? (Hello from Melbourne!)
-
I have no idea of the precise number, but it has always been significant, from the first batch. Sam Altman was one of them.

On both sides of the market, which I think drives some of the phenomenon. You can teach popular courses with an adjunct instead of an expensive tenured professor. The adjuncts are ruthlessly exploited and, perhaps unsurprisingly, see exploitation everywhere they look.
-
They're also largely sentenced to living Twitter in real life, where perception is one false step will result in them being canceled from their career, and where a panopticon made up of extremely detail-oriented competitors knows "100 will enter; 1 will win" the tenure tourney.

What is the incentives that would push a college professor to make the work *hard*? The incentives to make the work easy are obvious: happier students, less work, better evaluation/easier promotion, and so forth. Grade inflation/compression is a natural outcome.
