Here's a word we need in 2019: Lapidation. An old word for stoning someone to death. @CassSunstein proposes we use it for virtual stonings -- outrage mobs that ruin reputations and lives, with little regard for truth or proportion.https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-05-23/harvard-professor-falls-victim-to-group-outrage …

The “Twitter mob” notion is not helpful. People have expressed judgement, criticism, and condemnation as long as there has been conversation. And the ability to openly opine, even if misguided, likely leads to *less* actual mob behavior.

"Lapidation" sounds pretentious.

The left's embrace of illiberal extra-judicial public punishment is one of the scarier things I've seen. It denies due process, a belief in redemption, a willingness to converse...it's oddly backwards. I'm not so sure we can actually call some of the left "liberal"

I am leftist and I am liberal. SJ hooligans do not represent me. To me they are just another fascism, althou still not as vicious as regular plain fascism which is gaining strength in Europe and America. Both sides are still fringe but they are feeding back each other.

You seem to have survived it, and I will probably provoke such a mob someday. Do you have any tips on how to deal with it?
-
The high bit is to realize how little the mob actually cares. Even the people who take the time to say something nasty probably only spent a minute thinking about it. So while it feels overwhelming to be on the receiving end, that's mostly an illusion.

That is a good one. Visceral. And it conveys the sense that the mob drags someone for a bit, then drops them and drags someone else, ad infinitum.
-
I guess it's true, life can be a drag, excuse the Sunday morning frivolity
