I still *really* don't understand why there isn't a digital wallet I can just load up and use to buy single articles from any major publication on the fly, zero friction. I'm not happy with paying $50-250/year for one pie when what I clearly want is a spread of slices.

This is slowly happening with

You’re seeing this already with Bitcoin. One of the beauties is micro transactions. A content creator can create a piece of content and readers can donate small amounts. Those small amounts add up over time. Decentralized journalism.
