The most overrated quality in a potential cofounder is experience. The most underrated is not flaking.

@paulg the quote I read was that you would be reluctant to start a company with a woman with young kids - so, yes, to be fair, you didn't say "invest," but that's where I went in my mind as that's how you work with start ups. So, thoughts on that statement?
I wrote that essay before we started YC. What I meant was, if I had two potential cofounders who were the same in every other respect but one was a mother with a newborn and one wasn't, I'd take the one who wasn't.

I used that example because it was one of the biggest distractions I could imagine. And having now had several kids, it's still one of the biggest distractions I can imagine.

But why did you say women? Wouldn’t it be a distraction for men, too?
