Who cares how bad it will or won't be. Rather, how about we just stop shitting on the only planet we can live on?

I appreciate the authors evolving views on climate change but this piece could've ended after AOC's “the world is going to end in 12 years...if we don't address climate change" quote. Only someone whos lived a full life on this planet would think there's a middle ground.

Good article. Sharing with reasonable republicans.

Arguably, this is the only discussion we *should* have, as a broad community, about climate change. What and how do we want to manage the risks.

This is one of the best articles I have read. I try to look at the earth as a living being, which it is. No living thing would survive what we are doing to earth. Imagine...for unsustainable short term profits. Insanity. Drunk on greed.

Risk management is, in my opinion, the best argument for fighting global warming: You don't need any technical exertise to understand it and you don't need to appeal to authority.
-
Risk prevention is a tough sell marketing-wise, though. That's why I prefer more aspirational takes like climate engineering. Wouldn't it be cool if humanity could decide on the weather? I don't think this is pushed nearly enough.

Alarmists that don't push nuclear make me suspicious. With the language I see (like "the world will end in 12 years") you'd think they'd be willing to consider any option. But the leading proposal is a huge omnibus package that fixes climate PLUS a thousand other things.
-
This is suspicious because it plays into the conservative narrative that climate change is used as a way to seize more government control over the economy. Alarmists could shut down that narrative AND solve the climate issue by subsidizing nuclear alone in a simple bill.
