I was trying to explain to my 7 yo how powerful it is to be able to read, because you can now learn anything from books instead of waiting for teachers to teach you. When I described a shelf of books as an army of robot teachers, he started to get it.

I remember when I first leaned a fact from a book that my mom did not know, it was some trivial thing about China, but realizing that I could learn something and did not have to wait for someone else older to know it and tell me was very powerful and memorable.

When my kids tell me things I didn't know, I always make a big deal about it in order to encourage them to learn more such things.

I try to learn along with my daughter, if I don’t know about it I say to her “ will come back with more info” . Then try to give her practical examples and then a book which we both read together.

Giving them choices to learn and think is also a very powerful tool to make them more inquisitive I think.

I wonder if you can ask them adjacent questions that they don't yet know, but can now go find the answer to and "teach" you
