What software design is not dated? Is there such a thing as classic software design?

Do you feel this way about the original iPhone UI (iOS 1-6)?
-
I think that's BS. Many designs that make older ones dated wouldn't even have emerged without the original one blazing the trail. The myth of the ever-green design is a neat romantic notion, but it's not supported by history.

When you talk about design is it about the aesthetics, utility or philosophy? Or all three of them?
-
Aesthetics and utility. I'm not sure what you mean by philosophy, but whatever it is, those two don't leave room for much of it. And even aesthetics and utility are not that separate.
