The definition of "rich" is important. Could they have gone home and lived with their parents if it all went bad? That's a safety net.

"Rich" doesn't mean millions in a trust. It means can afford private college (RISD), can fall back on family, friends and day jobs if biz fails. They were never in danger of starving. They cared more about advancing idea than making money, that's brave, but also huge privilege.

From what I've read one can be privileged in one's race, gender, sexuality, wealth, education, age, able-bodiedness, and many other things. Which one of these is the one it meant to you where you were raised?

Being rich helps. Money is a necessity. But where there is a will, there is a way. I think being rich may get you out the door quicker, but mission and desire carries the journey.

Being rich doesn't mean you are gonna have a happy and content life. But it always means you don't have to worry about your medical bills. Likewise being rich doesn't mean you are gonna be a successful founder. But it certainly means you have the resources poor people don't.
