Good writing is concise. It's possible to say things concisely in a way that everyone can understand, but not in a way that leaves no room for people to misrepresent you. So if you write well about controversial topics, you have to resign yourself to being misrepresented.
You can never fully correct misrepresentations, because lies spread faster than the truth. "No, what I said was" just doesn't have the virality of "Prominent person says outrageous thing."
