It merely says he was an early investor, not that he invested in 2010.

I think there's a difference between not being able to afford rent in SFBA and having student loan debt, not having a family safety net to fall back on, etc. Startups may not be exclusively for "rich kids", but having a financial safety net certainly makes it a lot less risky!
