YC is accountable. They'll lose money if the African startups they fund fail. And there tends to be a timeframe for startups as well, which in practice is all too short.

Okay. Didn’t realise that you were forecasting on behalf of YC. If that’s the case, great! - Will be great case study to learn from, on how far/close we are from forecasting right based on anecdotal decisions.

I haven't found a data point that contradicts what Paul says. You don't need $500k in seed, you need $50k. You can raise that from global markets on your phone (already happening). In 30 years the continent will be 2.2B people, mostly young (no young ppl in EU/US in 2050)
