My kids are always coming up with startup ideas. I decided the 10 yo is now old enough to hear the truth: if you want to start a startup, the thing to be doing at 10 is learning the things that will enable you to have good startup ideas at 20. How to program especially.

Haha, this reminds me that I actually started programming because of my former addiction to Minecraft. Used to build mods and server plugins to add new cool features and items.

Is college really important if we can learn from these sources?

You can definitely do it without college. but some companies really care. Not a deal breaker. Also, college forces you through a decent breadth of knowledge. Much of programming is learning what exists so you have the tools to lookup ways to solve problems
