Interesting idea: that feeling when nothing has worked and you don't know what to try next is actually a gift. I don't know if that's true, but I'd like to believe it.https://medium.com/@sunilsingh_42118/the-most-underrated-gift-of-mathematics-is-stillness-92b7136ca42d …

Is this similar to letting a child *be* bored and leaving them to be responsible for their own entertainment? Instead of just finding something for them to do?

Thanks for sharing this Paul - I’ve found this particularly difficult, but invaluable, to find. It is only when I closed down my recent startup and almost immediately opening another in my desire to avoid stasis that I found the beauty of pausing, of having patience.

I like to believe that our conscious minds hog all the mental compute power despite their limited functionality. So when they hit the wall and are silenced, the compute power is finally directed to the more dynamic subconscious processes. Maybe that’s the gift?

Thinking mind is just one aspect of life. Most people can't taste life bcoz they think psychological drama is the only reality.

Well, this is the state most people attempt to reach when meditating. Only in this case, stillness is reached via exhaustion rather than deliberate attempt.

I’ve had 10 weeks off teaching and management duties (what they face me in maternity leave) and I’ve solved a 150 year issue and developed new method for the field. Imagine if academics had more time to think. #academiclife
