The most surprising thing I've learned from being involved with nonprofits is that they are a magnet for sociopaths. One's naive reaction is "Why would nonprofits attract them? Nonprofits do good!" But the defining quality of nonprofits is to make no profit, not to do good.

Im not so sure that its true. A charlatan founder can deceive unsophisticated investors easily. These stories are plentiful. Legitimate nonprofits have oversight through their Board... and these Boards do hold no profits accountable....

So can nonprofits attract a fraudster? Sure. But I cant see why itd be any more attractive than a startup. Not a YC or top-investor-funded startup. But as you know, most startups aren't that.
