Do you ever worry about whether using a semicolon in an email or text message, while grammatically correct, would make you seem fussy and pretentious (vs. using a plain old comma)? Asking for a friend.
Not if I were writing to an educated adult. There are sentences that wouldn't be right without one, and I would find it hard to click send looking at a sentence I knew wasn't right. I wouldn't do it, obviously, with a recipient I worried might be confused by a semicolon though.

Just don't use them when writing to C programmers. Completely throws them.
