This quote is all the more remarkable considering who said it and when. Even now, being boastful is a huge social error among educated English people, and it would have been even more so in 1940 when Hardy was writing. So clearly this was something he thought very important.
But then the impostor syndrome kicks in for programmers and what not. I can see the value behind this quote. If you truly truly believe in it, you'll do this naturally — because it's important to you. Sneakers are like this to me, hence the app I've created

This is the hardest part of entrepreneurship for me - just naturally rebel against overselling anything.
"exaggerate a little"... is this what the street and public view Elon and Tesla as well?
I'm not sure it should say "Good work... ", maybe "Memorable work..." has more truth to it.
It seems good quotes must not be humble either.
Also this quote at scale is recursive in a bad way.
