It doesn't just sell someone a car, it sells them an image, a relationship & a feeling that they are tapping into the future!

But you can't deny the Cult of Elon Musk+SpaceX+Tesla that is driving each of them in one or another way.
I don't know about other people, but zero of my friends that own Teslas bought them because Elon is the CEO.

Also ‘cult’ is used to imply irrationality of people who support him. It seems perfectly rational to me to respect his unprecedented achievements in multiple industries and to hope he continues the success given the good it does for the struggle clean energy
