I would guess the mistake here is to set the cutoff for a startup at some late point, like getting funding.

Did yc ever build a staged Bayesian model so it could answer: "what is p(exit) for each of (solo founder, solo founder who got funded by elite VC...etc)"? Seems like you have enough datapoints to detect an effect if it is very strong.
