Overly avoiding pain is just as bad as overly seeking it. We just have a word for the latter (masochism) but none for the former.

It depends on the perceived size of the pain. When we assume someone can and should face the pain, they are a wuss for not doing so. When we assume the pain is too great for them to face, we don't call them a wuss, but have no other words, besides brave when they do face it.

He said overly avoiding it, and wuss is the word for that.
