Bizarre discovery: Tesla has a fleet of haters who must search for tweets mentioning the company in order to reply to them. I've seen plenty of haters before, but never such proactive ones. Who are they? Car dealers? People who shorted the stock? Bots?

They probably would, except for product innovations at one broker. Robinhood, specifically, is acting as a bridge from crypto-as-gambling to traditional-finance-as-gambling.

A lot of people that made money in cryptocurrencies see themselves as having spotted some unique opportunity so there's also strong bias to think they can similarly spot other one-off bets (in addition to the social media/gamification of TSLAQ).

I’m not a crypto person, I’m a finance guy. Most of what I do is boring and old-fashioned - analysing companies and building financial models. I very rarely sell a stock short but will do it if the arguments to do so are overwhelming.

Paul, there are far more more crypto-folk amongst the Tesla bulls than you think. There are also far more experienced professional short-sellers who think Tesla equity is materially mispriced than you think. Nonetheless, the merits of the arguments must stand on their own.

They aren’t smart enough to be crypto people. Most of them are unsophisticated “value investors” with a very naive short thesis that evolved into resentful conspiracy theory short thesis.
