The old car companies think what separates them from Tesla is that Teslas are electric. But they're also separated by the fact that Teslas are software, and that, they will discover, is an unbridgeable gulf.

Exactly! Car companies should've doubled down on software/UI rather than electric and autonomous. Although hard to tell if it's unbridgeable. Tesla features I use most often seem very much in reach for Toyota at least.
